In order for the Earth to continuously support human lives, we must achieve sustainability for the global social, economic and environmental systems that meet “the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. To reach the global sustainability, we must develop policies and technologies which embrace a diverse range of energy solutions especially renewable energy. Renewable energy offers a great potential for the world to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, which can lead to a cleaner environment, better preservation of natural resources and more economic opportunities to the communities. Biomass is a major source of renewable energy available in the world.
This presentation will introduce audience to the renewable research as a university-wide interdisciplinary initiative taking place at the Center for Clean Energy Research and Education at Eastern Illinois University, in the State of Illinois, USA. The systematic research include biomass gasification, sustainable resource development, ecological systems, solid waste utilization, renewable energy education and community collaboration.

为了让地球持续支持人类的生活，必须实现全球可持续发展的社会、经济和环境系统，以满足目前人类需要的同时又不损害后代的资源，可再生能源作为重要的能源来源，为世界减少对石化燃料的依赖性，具有很大的潜力，其中生物质是世界上可再生能源的主要来源。
本讲座将介绍伊利诺斯东部清洁能源研究与教育中心的可再生能源的研究情况，包括生物质气化，资源的可持续发展，生态系统，固体废物利用，可再生能源教育和社区合作等。
