01 Association Profile Born for "Green"
Founded in 1998, the Zhejiang University of Technology Green Environmental Protection Association aims to promote environmental concepts, popularize environmental knowledge, and advocate environmental culture. It currently has over 500 in-school members, with new recruits each year coming from across the entire university. In 2001, the association established the first student club Party branch in Zhejiang Province, and in 2023, it established a functional Youth League branch. For the 2024-2025 academic year, the association has over 70 student cadres and more than 500 members across its three campuses. The association actively maintains contact with the Hangzhou Volunteer Service Corps and the Hangzhou University Green Alliance, with the association's vice president serving as the head of the Alliance's Comprehensive Department. Members of the Green Association adhere to the working philosophy of "Innovation, Depth, Pragmatism, and Professionalism," insist on combining theory with practice, and continuously innovate. Their activities have gradually deepened and become more specialized, with increasing influence attracting more fresh forces passionate about environmental protection to join this sacred cause.
02 Association Activities & Initiatives Contributing to Green and Low-Carbon Development
Over the years, the association has developed a series of signature activities with environmental characteristics, including:Green Angels in Action environmental education for primary and secondary school students, the Fallen Leaves Convey Affection event, the Seed Mystery Box event, the Green Culture Festival, the Hangzhou University Green Forum, the Leave No Trace at West Lake & Xiazhu Lake activities, the Box Fusion & Donate with Waste event, and summer environmental science popularization social practice, among others.
"Green Angels in Action": The association collaborates with organizations like Deqing Qiushan Central Primary School, Qiushan Middle School, and the Deqing Qingle Public Welfare Organization to carry out the Green Angels in Action activity. It popularizes environmental knowledge by combining theory and practice. Theme-based classes on topics like Turning Waste into Treasure, Water Environment, and White Pollution have sparked great interest among students, garnered positive social feedback, and encouraged children to start with small steps to collectively achieve the green Chinese dream.
"Fallen Leaves Convey Affection": As a "long-standing" activity of the Green Association that has continued for over 20 years, it rejuvenates with new vitality each year. After recent innovations, this year's event received an enthusiastic response from a wide range of teachers and students, with over 2000 participants. The activity involves using fallen leaves to handcraft bookmarks, reducing leaf waste, enhancing students' environmental awareness and hands-on skills, making it a highly meaningful event.
"Green Culture Festival": To implement Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization and the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, the association vigorously promotes and enriches green environmental culture, advancing the Green Culture Festival. In 2023, it joined hands with Rongda Logistics Group to launch the third "Green Culture Festival," calling for active participation from the entire university community in campus clean-ups, green labor activities, and hosting an environmental protection fitness step-counting week and a "Reduce the Burden on Earth" activity. Through these activities, the aim is to foster a deep understanding of green living in daily life, practice environmental concepts, realize the new development philosophy of "pursuing harmony between humanity and nature," and promote the construction of a green campus.
"Seed Mystery Box": Harnessing the power of youth to nurture the flowers of youth. The activity gained widespread response for its practicality, sense of the unknown, and fulfillment, with the total readership of its promotional series exceeding 17,000+. While increasing campus greenery, the activity allows university students to learn about plant growth and development, experience the psychological journey of cultivation, awaken their environmental awareness, enhance practical abilities, and foster a campus atmosphere of environmental protection.
"Leave No Trace": University student volunteers and primary school students promote the concept of "Leave No Trace" during lake-circling activities, raising public awareness of waste sorting and environmental protection. Currently, the association has innovated activity formats at West Lake and the Xiazhu Lake Wetland Scenic Area to more widely promote the "Leave No Trace" concept, contributing to improving the urban appearance and elevating the city's quality in Hangzhou and Huzhou.
Summer Environmental Science Popularization Social Practice: Each year, the association forms social practice teams to understand the current state of ecological civilization construction, learn about cutting-edge science and technology in the environmental field, grasp the current situation and prospects of green industry development, and explore experiences and models for sustainable development through hands-on practice. Teams bring environmental concepts into communities through science popularization and games. The 2023 practice achieved fruitful results, gaining recognition from various parties. The activity content was subsequently published on eight official platforms including Xuexi Qiangguo and Zhejiang Online, and the team received honors such as university-level and college-level outstanding practice teams and outstanding individuals.
03 Association Achievements & Future
Continuing to Practice Energy Conservation, Emission Reduction, and Guarding a Beautiful China Amid Applause
Over the years, members of the Green Association have cumulatively participated in over 5,500 person-times of environmental volunteer service, amounting to more than 40,000 hours. The association's efforts in guarding clear waters and green mountains and transmitting "green" power have received support and recognition from units including the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Ecology and Environment, the Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment, as well as the university and college Youth League committees. The association has successively received honors such as the 2021 National "University Students in Action" Outstanding Student Club, the 2022 National Top 100 "Vibrant Student Clubs" in Universities and the Top 5 "Vibrant Student Clubs" in Zhejiang Province, the 2022 Tencent Charity Low-Carbon Campus Dream Season "Best Organizational Team," and the 2023 Campus Top Ten Student Clubs.
As a volunteer public welfare organization committed to promoting the development of environmental protection, the Green Environmental Protection Association has achieved significant results in environmental advocacy, protection, and sustainable development. By organizing green forums, environmental activities, and competitions, the association guides and calls upon university students to learn about and practice environmental protection, enhancing public environmental awareness and concern. Simultaneously, the association collaborates with government departments and other relevant organizations to promote low-carbon, green lifestyles, achieve resource conservation and environmental protection, and contributes to the development of environmental protection for the entire society. In the future, the Zhejiang University of Technology Green Environmental Protection Association will continue to implement the concepts of "Green, Low-Carbon, and Sustainable," leverage its own advantages and expertise, and deepen the soil of green environmental protection to contribute to building a beautiful China and creating a green campus.
