On December 5th, ZJUT and the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences jointly held the release ceremony of the Global Environmental Think Tank Development Report 2025 (hereinafter referred to as the Report) in Beijing. Zhou Guohui, former vice chairman of the 12th Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and president of the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, Erik Solheim, former UN Under-Secretary-General and former Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, Xia Zuyi, vice president of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences, and Chen Yao, vice president of ZJUT, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches at the opening.
The Report was researched and written by the Green Innovation and Development Strategy Research Center of ZJUT, which was jointly guided and established by ZJUT and the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences. It aims to promote the development and cooperation of global environmental think tanks through research and evaluation of global environmental think tanks.
Erik Solheim said in his speech that China has achieved remarkable achievements in ecological and environmental protection and green and low-carbon development, and environmental think tanks are also showing a vigorous development trend. Chen Yao stated that in recent years, ZJUT has closely aligned with national strategies and regional demands, vigorously promoted interdisciplinary integration and the convergence of liberal arts and sciences, and taken global environmental governance and regional green development as core directions. It has gathered interdisciplinary researchers for over a year and a half, established nearly ten thousand information ledgers, and constructed a global environmental think tank database. At the release ceremony, Erik Solheim was appointed as a specially-appointed professor of ZJUT.
More than 100 experts and representatives from domestic and foreign think tanks in the fields of ecological environment and green development, as well as from research institutes, universities, and enterprises attended the ceremony. Over 20 media outlets including Xinhua News Agency, China National Radio, and Guangming Daily covered the event on site.
