The College of Chemical Engineering was founded in 1953. The over 60 years’ development has witnessed the college’s fruitful achievements in discipline construction, talent cultivation, scientific research and social services, etc. In the year of 2016, the chemical engineering and technology discipline ranked the 8th place and A level in China (Top 5.56%) in the 4th National Subject Evaluation. Being the one and only A-level discipline in Zhejiang University of Technology (ZJUT), there are now five undergraduate majors in the College of Chemical Engineering: Chemical Engineering and Technology, Applied Chemistry, Energy Chemical Engineering, Safety Engineering and Marine Technology, among which the Chemical Engineering and Technology, Applied Chemistry, Energy Chemical Engineering and Safety Engineering were included in the Double 10000 Plan -- the national project for first-class undergraduate major development.
At present, the college has 262 staff including 61 professors, 101 associate professors, of which 71 are doctoral supervisors and 137 are master supervisors，which accounts for 61.8% of all the professors in the whole university. In additional, the college now has 1 National Key Discipline (Nurture), 1 Provincial First-class Discipline, 2 Provincial Key Disciplines, 1 first-level discipline postdoctoral research station, 1 first-level discipline doctoral degree program, 8 second-level discipline doctoral degree programs, 1 National Key Laboratory for Green Chemical Synthesis Technology (Nurture), 1 International Collaboration Base with MOST (Ministry of Science and Technology) for energy materials and applications, 1 National Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, 1 National Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center， 3 Provincial Key Laboratories and 2 Provincial Industrial (Regional) Science and Technology Innovation Service Platforms. Besides, the college is a member of the National Coal Development and Utilization Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance. Furthermore, the college has leaded 5 Provincial Key Technological Innovation Teams, and hitherto won 13 national science achievement awards and more than 40 provincial and ministerial awards.
According to the latest data from Essential Science Indicators (ESI) ， five disciplines of ZJUT (Chemistry, Engineering, Material science, Environmental science and ecology and Agricultural science) have ranked the world top 1%. Chemistry discipline has been ranked the top 1% place since 2001, and is now ranked world top 500 (the 229th). More than 400 SCI and EI papers have been published per year, along with more than 100 patents been granted. Moreover, the college has undertaken more than 40 scientific research projects at or above provincial level per year, such as Natural Science Funding and National Key Scientific Research Project, which funded more than 50 million RMB per year. The college now has various scientific devices and equipment to the value of 150 million RMB approximately.
The College of Chemical Engineering now has about 1400 undergraduate students, 1500 graduate students, 130 doctoral students, and more than 20 postdoctoral students. During the past four years, the number of admitted doctoral and master students has exceeded that of undergraduate students in the college. The college currently has 2 majors which are authenticated by the Chinese Engineering Education Professional Committee, 4 national double 10000 plan majors, 1 national bilingual Pilot Course, 1 national Excellent-resource Sharing Course, 1 national Excellent-video Open Course, 1 national Excellent Course, and 6 provincial Excellent Courses, and has won 7 Teaching Achievement Awards at or above provincial level. Therefore, the College of Chemical Engineering has already developed a good talent training system and become an important center for talents cultivation in the field of chemical engineering in China.
Our college has always been active in international exchange and cooperation programs, and established long-term cooperation with some famous universities and scientific institutions in USA, UK, Germany, France, Belgium and Japan, etc. Every year, more than 6% of the college students went abroad for further education, or participate in the overseas study tours organized by the college.
