Founded in 2000, the College of Foreign Languages takes it as its mission to serve society by offering high quality foreign language and culture education, enhancing internationalization of education, and promoting cultural exchange between China and other countries.
The College is composed of the English Department, the Japanese Department, the Translation Department, the College English Teaching and Research Section, and the Postgraduate Teaching and Research Section. In addition to offering undergraduate programs, it also offers MA education in collaboration with the School of Humanities, and engages in education for international students.
Since its first class of English majors admitted back in 1994, it has graduated 2332 students, ranking first in Zhejiang University of Technology in terms of employment rate for the past six consecutive years. The students’ excellence is partly demonstrated in the numerous awards and prizes from provincial and national academic competitions.
The College is endowed with a strong faculty, consisting of 7 professors, 8 part-time professors, 32 associate professors, 24 PhDs, and 11 foreign experts. It embraces 4 disciplines, including English language and literature (a ZJUT priority discipline), foreign linguistics and applied linguistics, Japanese language and literature, translation studies, and two university funded research centers. In the recent five years, the teachers have published some 170 academic papers, 20 of which were carried in authoritative or first rate foreign language academic journals. They have brought out 13 translations and monographs, more than 30 textbooks, and carried out 11 provincial and ministry-level academic projects.
The College enjoys a high level of international education, with 5 student exchange programs set up with foreign universities, and provides backbone support for 2 Confucius Institutes and other Chinese language teaching programs overseas.
