School of Humanities is a comprehensive school composed of 3 first-class disciplines, i.e., Chinese Language & Literature, Journalistic Communication, and Art Science. It consists of 4 departments, i.e., Department of Chinese Language, Department of Journalism, Department of Advertisement, and Department of Broadcasting & Anchor Art, with nearly 1,200 undergraduates.
At present, there are 13 professors and 14 doctors in the college. Half of the teachers are of senior professional title and 80% hold a master's degree. Among them, there are experts enjoying special allowances granted by the government, members of National Guidance Committee of Ministry of Education, middle-aged and young discipline forerunners of Zhejiang universities and colleges, 1 Vice-President of Chinese Verse Academic Society, 1 president of Zhejiang Ancient Literature Academic Society, 1 director of Chinese Language Academic Society, 1 director of National Foreign Literature Teaching and Research Society, 1 director of Broadcasting and Anchor Art Education Professional Committee in Chinese Higher Education Academic Society, 1 member of Chinese Writers Association, 1 member of Chinese TV Artists Association, and specially-invited scholars of Zhejiang WTO Consultant and Research Center. One of them has been awarded “National Top 100 Anchorperson” and won 1 st prize of “the Journalistic Column of Chinese Broadcasting and TV”.
Research institutes affiliated to the college include Research Center for Chinese Literature Development and Communication, Chen Hsiang-mei Research Institute, Research Institute for Comparative Literature and World Literature, and Communication Research Institute. The discipline of Chinese Ancient Literature is named as provincial key discipline and a master's program has already been approved in this research area. In recent years, the teachers have published over 200 articles in Literature Reviews , Literature Legacy , Foreign Literature Studies , Modern Communication , etc. Over 20 monographs have been published by the Commercial Press, Chinese Social Science Publishing House and Shanghai Ancient Books Publishing House, etc. The college has undertaken nearly 20 projects sponsored by National Social Science Fund, the Ministry of Education, and of Zhejiang Social Science Regulation Program, etc. It has also achieved 14 major awards such as 2nd prize of the State Excellent Teaching Achievements, 1 st prize of Zhejiang Excellent Teaching Achievements, and Zhejiang Excellent Achievements of Social Science, etc.
The college has an excellent teaching and research environment with a total floor space of over 700 m 2 , including 1 multi-media demonstration room, 1 Internet room, 1 advertising copywriting room, 1 video room, 1 physique center and 6 broadcasting laboratories. In addition, the Modern Education Center , which is used by students majoring in Broadcasting & TV Journalism, Advertising, and Broadcasting & Anchor Art, is of national standard.
