College of Food Science and Technology

Time: 1011 ,2022

The college of Food Science and Technology of Zhejiang University of Technology was founded on December 10, 2019, whose predecessor was the department of Fermentation Engineering established in 1981, and later renamed as the department of Food Science and Technology in 1987.

For more than 40 years, the college has been developing rapidly and has formed a complete talent training system for undergraduates, masters, and doctors and the scientific research and innovation system. It offers the first-level discipline of master degree in food science and engineering, and the masters for the academic degree of biology and medicine (food engineering) and food processing and safety. And shared 2 PhD programs in biology and chemical engineering. It has 2 undergraduate programs, namely food science and engineering, food quality and safety, among which, food science and engineering was selected as a national first-class undergraduate professional construction site, and through the Ministry of Education engineering education professional certification. And food quality and safety was selected as a first-class undergraduate professional construction site in Zhejiang Province.

At present, there are more than 650 students in the college, including more than 350 undergraduates and more than 300 postgraduates. The one-time employment rate of graduates is over 98%, and the further study rate is over 50%.

The college now has formed an outstanding faculty team with balanced knowledge structure, research domain, and age scale. More than 51% of teachers with senior professional titles, the ratio of full-time teachers with doctor's degree reaches 96%, and over 68% have oversea visiting and training experiences

Over the years, the college has undertaken 1 national key R&D project, participated in 7 national key R&D projects, undertaken more than 50 national fund projects, undertaken 21 major provincial and ministerial projects, and undertaken more than 70 horizontal projects entrusted by enterprises. Up to date, the college received scientific research funds over 100 million, won nearly 13 provincial and ministerial awards, published more than 60 academic papers and authorized more than 135 national invention patents and 6 international patents.

The college has high-level scientific research and teaching platforms such as the Key Laboratory of Efficient Development and Utilization of Deep Blue Fishery Resources in Zhejiang Province, the National R&D Sub-center of Oceanic Aquatic Products Processing Technology of the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Key Laboratory of Food Macromolecular Resources Processing Technology in China Light Industry. The total construction area of laboratories and office buildings is nearly 10,000 square meters.

The college has four distinctive key research directions: food science, aquatic product processing and storage engineering, agricultural product processing and storage engineering, and grain oil and vegetable protein engineering, and formed 6 major scientific research teams, namely food natural product and nutritional health research center, bioactives and functional foods research center, aquatic products processing and preservation research center, food processing and nutrition research center, agricultural and forestry food processing and packaging research center and lipid nutrition and protein engineering research center. In May 2018, as the college with the greatest contribution, it promoted agricultural discipline of ZJUT to enter the top 1% of the global ESI disciplines, marking that the scientific research level of food science and engineering disciplines has entered the ranks of international high-level disciplines!

The College of Food Science and Technology adheres to the spirit of the college motto of 博知景行, closely connects with the Healthy China strategy, and takes promoting food technology innovation as its own responsibility, strives to build a distinctive and high-level research college!
