Founded in 1953, College of Mechanical Engineering (CME) is one of the oldest colleges in Zhejiang University of Technology. Focusing on strengthening students’ theoretical foundation, expertise, practice, innovation and international perspective, CME has cultivated a smart and endeavoring talent team composed of undergraduates, graduates, doctoral candidates and post-doctoral reseachers in the field of Mechanical Engineering. At present, there are over 250 people in the teaching staff, including 68 full professors and 75 associate professors. About 140 doctoral candidates, 1000 graduate students and 2000 undergraduates enroll in the college each year.
CME houses a post-doctoral research station in Mechanical Engineering. At the level of graduate cultivating, there are a first-level doctoral discipline in Mechanical Engineering which consists of 5 subordinate discipline doctoral programs, an independent subordinate discipline doctoral program in Chemical Process Mechanism, and 2 first-level master’s discipline in Mechanical Engineering and Power Engineering & Engineering Thermo-physics which consist of 12 subordinate discipline Master's programs. At the level of undergraduate cultivating, CME offers 7 undergraduate programs including Mechanical Engineering, Process Equipment & Control Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, Measurement and Control Technology & Instruments, Energy and Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Logistics Engineering. Among them, Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program has passed the International Engineering Education Professional Accreditation organized by MOE. CME has won 3 Second Prizes of National Award for Teaching Achievement and 2 First Prizes of Zhejiang Provincial Award for Teaching Achievement. Moreover, CME is actively developing international cooperation on talent cultivation with prestigious universities throughout the world. There are more than 20 international students enroll in CME every year. Dozens of student exchanges, joint programs, and high-level academic exchanges are encouraged and sponsored.
CME owns over 10 national and provincial scientific research platforms, including National Center for international Research of Special Purpose Equipment and Advanced Processing Technology, Key laboratory of Special Purpose Equipment and Advanced Processing Technology，(Ministry of education, China), and Engineering Research Center of Process Equipment Remanufacturing (Ministry of Education, China), and so on. CME is dedicated to develop scientific research in those related subjects such as Precision Manufacturing Technology & Equipment, High Energy Beam Manufacturing Technology & Equipment, Mechatronic System Automation, Electro-hydraulic Control Components & System, Advanced Design & Manufacturing Technology, Agricultural Engineering Equipment & Automation, Digital Medical Engineering, Acoustics & Vibration, Vehicle Engineering & Intelligent Transportation, Industrial engineering, Structural Integrity & Safety of Process, Fluid machinery, Advanced Process Equipment, Thermal Engineering, Solid Mechanics, Robot Technology & Engineering, Distributed Energy & Microgrid Technology, and Micro/nanomechanical Testing Technology & Application. CME has acquired many high leveled prizes and awards in research, namely 1 Second Prize of National Award for Inventions, 4 Second Prizes of National Award for Progress in Science & Technology, 1 Second Prize of National Award for Defense Technology, and 14 First Prizes in Provincial Award for Science and Technology. Each year, over 20 national research projects are granted and research fund amounts to 60 million Yuan. In addition, CME enjoys extensive academic exchange and cooperation with international universities and research institutes from USA, Japan, Europe, Hong Kong, Taiwan, etc., and has co-established seven international scientific research platforms and hosts 2-3 international academic conferences annually.
