The College of Civil Engineering of Zhejiang University of Technology was founded on the basis of the Discipline of Civil Engineering, established in 1979. In 2019, after the adjustment of disciplines, the former College of Civil Engineering and architecture was renamed as the College of Civil Engineering. After nearly 40 years of development, the college has established a complete talent training system from undergraduate to the doctoral. The college now has 2 undergraduate programs, including Civil Engineering, Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering；It has doctoral and master’s degree in Civil engineering; Meanwhile, it has the right to confer master’s degree in Civil and Hydraulic Engineering. The major of Civil engineering, Water supply and drainage Science and Engineering has passed the undergraduate education certification evaluation and re-evaluation of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. In recent years, the college has achieved remarkable achievements in discipline and specialty construction. Both civil engineering and water supply and drainage science and engineering majors have been listed in the national first-class undergraduate construction program, and the major of civil engineering has been listed in the first-class construction discipline of Zhejiang Province.
Currently, the college consists of 2 teaching departments, they are civil engineering, water supply and drainage science and engineering.It also established 8 research institutes accordingly, including the concrete structure engineering, steel structure engineering and mechanics, civil engineering materials, disaster prevention and mitigation, bridge and tunnel engineering, geotechnical engineering, municipal engineering, port and offshore engineering, coastal bridge structural engineering, etc. We own 1 experiment center and has established several teaching and research platforms, including an international science and technology cooperation base, a provincial key laboratory base , a provincial civil engineering experimental teaching demonstration center, and a provincial civil engineering virtual simulation experimental teaching center. The college has more than 50 million yuan of equipment assets, and nearly 10,000 square meters spaces for teaching and research.
The college has 106 faculty and staff members, including 33 teachers with senior professional titles and 29 associate senior professional titles. More than 80% of full-time teachers have doctoral degrees. There are more than 1000 full-time undergraduates, 500 postgraduate students, 120 international students, 28 doctoral students and 5 post-doctoral lecturers. There are 1 recipient of Outstanding Youth Fund of National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2 members of Millions of Leading Engineering Talents, 3 recipients of special allowance of The State Council, 1 special expert of Zhejiang Province, 27 members of 151 Talent Project of Zhejiang Province，6 young and middle-aged academic leaders, and more than 40 honorary, part-time and visiting professors.
In the past five years, the college has undertaken and completed more than 40 national science and technology projects and more than 60 provincial and ministerial science and technology projects, with the total amount of scientific research funding exceeding 100 million yuan. Our teachers have published more than 500 high-level papers at home and abroad, won 9 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievement awards and more than 100 patents have been authorized.
The college has a strong academic atmosphere and active intercollegiate communications. In recent years, academicians of the National Academy of Engineering and well-known scholars have been invited to give lectures. Experts, scholars and international students from the United States, The United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, Denmark, Australia and other countries are invited for learning and communications, which cultivated a great cooperative relationship. At the same time, teachers and students are encouraged to go abroad for academic exchange and further study. The college has gradually formed its own characteristics in discipline construction, scientific research, teaching reform, student training and many other aspects, thus, the quality of student education has been improving year by year. Each year, many students enter famous domestic and foreign universities for further study. The employment rate of students is always in the forefront of the school.
At present, all the faculty and students are working with joint effort to deepen the educational reform, expand the autonomy of running schools, and cultivate the ability of self-development, so as to build the college into an applied research institute with some well-known disciplines in China.
