Nobel Laureate Professor Wilczek Accepts Offer as Chief Scientist of ZJUT

On the morning of 9th Oct., Frank Wilczek, the winner of Nobel Prize in Physics and excellent American Theoretical Physics Scientist, takes the letter of appointment from ZJUT President Cai Yuanqiang and thus appointed as the chief scientist of ZJUT Quantum Centre.

Wilczek acknowledges the honor to be the chief scientist of ZJUT Quantum Centre. He promised to work on ZJUT campus over 30 days each year and host video conferences which are about plans over the future of the Centre, guidance of the Centre’s research and professional communications with faculty and students every two weeks. In terms of teaching, he will send his class contents in MIT to professors and students in ZJUT synchronously, invite world-class scholars to give public reports and organize academic seminars regularly. In the meantime, he is to support outstanding scientists from home and abroad to work in ZJUT, recommend scholars from ZJUT to visit world-renowned universities overseas and promote cooperations and exchanges in Chinese and American cultures and other aspects. During his staying in ZJUT, Wilczek is going to give a series of lectures on Frontiers of Modern Physics aiming at postgraduate students and professors.

President Cai Yuanqiang mentions that Wilczek Quantum Centre has always been focusing on the exploration of quantum mechanics basic principles, the basic attributes of quantum substances and the application of quantum in technology revolution. Now, Professor Wilczek, as the chief scientist of the Centre, is to comprehensively blueprint the the development of the Centre, direct the scientific research of the Centre, and lead the Centre towards the goal of world class universities. President Cai believes the joining of Professor Wilczek spells a milestone on the path of ZJUT’s process of top-level human resources development, and it should exert a positive and profound impact on the University’s transcending development.

It is known that Wilczek Quantum Centre has attracted four internationally renowned professors and been approved of high-end foreign experts projects by SAFEA (State Administration Of Foreign Experts Affairs) within a year since it was founded in 2014, attracting qualified personnel from world famous universities like Cambridge University. Quite a number of papers of the team has been published in world top physical journals.
