On the morning of May 27, local time, the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana celebrated its first anniversary in the auditorium of the College of Foreign Languages. The celebration was attended by Li Jiang, Counselor of the Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, Riche-Mike Wellington, an officer from the UNESCO Office in Ghana, Danny Easmon Mawuenyega, Secretary General of Ghana-China Friendship Association, as well as delegates from China Chamber of Commerce in Ghana, Chinese enterprises, teachers and students from the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana.
Zhang Libin, President of ZJUT, extended his congratulations on the first anniversary of the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana in a video, and expressed his delight on the achievements made over the last year in the Confucius Institute. He said that Zhejiang University of Technology would always support the constructions of Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana and make contributions to the educational and cultural exchanges between China and Ghana.
During the celebration ceremony, Zhou Youbin, Deputy Chief of Mission and Counselor for Political Affairs of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, delivered a speech on behalf of the Embassy. And Professor Nana Aba Amfo, Director of the Department of Foreign Languages, delivered a speech on behalf of the University of Ghana. The Chinese Director of this Confucius Institute reviewed its development over the last year: four teaching bases had been established, offering courses ranging from Chinese Language, HSK, Tai Chi, Tea Art, Calligraphy, to Traditional Chinese Medicine, etc, with over 1800 students. Besides, it had set up the first test center for HSK in Ghana.
Various cultural performances with distinct Chinese characteristics were given by winners in the 14th “Chinese Bridge” competition in Ghana, such as Peacock Dance, Peking Opera and Shaoxing Opera. These performances not only demonstrated the deep friendships between the people of China and Ghana, but also expressed the common wishes for a bright future of the Confucius Institute.
In the end, banners and thank-you letters were presented to institutions and individuals who had shown concern and support for the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana, wishing a better tomorrow for the Confucius Institute.
